Targeted Teaching Pedagogy
Broadbeach’s pedagogy is Targeted Teaching. It is based on the work of Dr Anita Archer, Dr Charles Hughes, Siegfried Engelmann, P.D Pearson and M.C Gallagher, John Hollingsworth and Dr Silvia Ybarra. The model includes aspects of both Explicit and Direct Instruction. Please click here for detailed information.

At Broadbeach we are proponents of the Science of Reading. We believe the main components of the teaching of reading are:
Systematic and explicit instruction: Reading is taught through a structured sequence, with clear modelling and guided practice that supports all learners to master foundational and advanced skills.
Integration of the key components of reading: Instruction includes phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, aligned with models such as the Simple View of Reading and Scarborough's Rope.
Rich and meaningful text experiences: Students engage with both decodable and authentic texts across different curriculum areas to build background knowledge, develop language structures, and enhance verbal reasoning and comprehension.
Targeted, inclusive, and data-informed teaching: Instruction is tailored to student needs through regular assessment, flexible grouping, and differentiated tiered support or extension, ensuring every learner is challenged and supported.
